FONT Festival

Fresh. Original. Nottingham. Theatre.

FONT is a festival of live performance returning for its third year in 2017. It is also your chance to see work made by artists based in Nottingham performed in the city in a range of small venues in Hockley, in the heart of the Creative Quarter, centring around Broad Street. From premieres of new short plays to devised theatre, dance to performance art, spoken word to story-telling it's designed to allow Nottingham's theatre-makers a space in their city to show their wares and at an affordable price for local audiences, every event in 2016's festival was Pay What You Decide.

Pay What You Decide allows you to pay what you can afford, rather than a fixed ticket price, but also removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a show in advance without knowing whether you are going to enjoy it or not. Tickets will be available to book in advance as usual, but there is no obligation for you to pay until after you have seen the show and artists will offer a guide suggested donation. All of that money goes straight back to the artist too, hopefully allowing them to keep making more work. That’s part of the festival's philosophy.

Also, this year the shows at the festival have been placed into three strands: Bold, Italic and Underlined.

Bold work is shows from experienced artists wanting bring a finished piece to the festival. Italic would be something with a particular angle to it such as work in progress and wanting to get people's angle on it or left of centre performance-y art type stuff that is more of a happening/fluxus event rather than a straight theatre show. Underlined as new emerging work, maybe from HE/FE colleges and universities or other new companies which we've found and liked - they've been underlined by us in the programme, think seeing The Beatles in Hamburg

FONT was founded by local artists for both artists and audiences and we'd love you to be one of those with us.

For more on what we are doing and who we are please take a look through the site, follow us on social media and book tickets to see the shows [when they're announced - this'll just take you to wjat we had on last year!].
Peace out,
